Hip Hop is a genre of music that is hailed by the contemporary Ghanaian youth but it’s still not given the necessary recognition by the music industry. Why am I saying this? There are almost no Hip Hop concerts, shows, TV programmes, etc. Apart from the upcoming Hip Hop awards being reorganized by 4Syte, there is no mainstream awards show for Hip Hop artists. Well, EL saw that loophole and with the passion he has for the genre, he and his BBnZ Live team boldly organized the B.A.R concert, which was held on 19th July, 2014 at Alliance Française in Accra.
The 2014 B.A.R concert was the official outdoor event/show for the “Abagdza” hitmaker’s Hip Hop project, The Best African Rapper (B.A.R). The historical night saw Aphro Harmony band produce live performances from the headline artist, EL himself. Song after song, he performed most tracks on the mixtape. Other Hip Hop stalwarts such as Sarkodie, Ko-Jo Cue, J. Town, Scientific, Jayso, Dex Kwasi, Wanlov, C-Real, Trigmatic, Bebelino, Cabum, and a whole lot of others also gave their best to satisfy the fans who stayed up all night jamming to performances of songs they’ve always been bobbing their heads to using headphones. Following the success of the first edition, EL decides to give Ghanaians a sequel to the concert. With support from Guinness and Tigo Music, the 2015 B.A.R concert which is to be held on Saturday, August 29 promises to thrill fans and end their musical starvation. This time, it comes off at a venue which has provision for a larger audience, the World Trade Center located at Independence Avenue opposite Children’s Park, Accra.
This year’s B.A.R concert is surely going to be more refreshing as EL just released B.A.R II mixtape, a 17-track project. Hence fans won’t be bored by having to party with the same songs they’ve been hearing since last year. This concert is a necessity, not just because you’re assured of quality and appreciable sound, but all your favourite Hip Hop acts shall be performing, especially the featured artists on the tape and his fellow BBnZ Live artists.
As the cliché goes, you don’t need to be told, you have to be part of the history –making process yourself by “repping” in person. A ticket sells for only 20 cedis. Make sure to purchase one and let’s have a moment of life.
